Our Mission
The Giving Tree supports housing retention for the chronically homeless and constructs community environments with people living in affordable housing. We reduce achievement barriers, isolation, and depression using art, recreation, and education as our tools.
We help people connect with themselves and their community by providing them with the tools and environment necessary to build those connections. We bring our programs to our clients’ doorsteps, so they don’t have to worry about coming to us; our workshops and gatherings are hosted right in the common areas and community rooms of the sites we serve. Our programs are tailored to the unique needs of each site, and run the gamut from an afterschool homework club for children to an adult mentoring program that links neighbor to neighbor and teaches critical housekeeping and hygeine skills. We present people with options for living positive, engaged, creative lives, while fostering community and personal growth. Our goal at every site we serve is to engender within the residents a deep sense of self, place, and permanence that brings joy to their lives and the lives of those around them.
